The EU could “act quickly and firmly” against what it deems “unjustified” travel bans issued by the US on five European individuals involved in combating digital hatred and misinformation, a European Commission spokesperson stated.

European leaders including Emmanuel Macron accused the US administration of “bullying and threats”, following the visa restrictions targeted figures that were central to efforts to enact laws governing US-based technology firms.
“For too long, ideologues in Europe have led coordinated campaigns to coerce American platforms to punish American viewpoints they oppose,” wrote the US secretary of state online. “The current administration will not stand for such actions of censorship beyond its borders.”
