Toy Story 5 Teaser Sets Woody and Buzz Against a Tablet Computer

Exactly 30 years since the first Toy Story movie debuted, establishing Pixar as a major animation studio and introducing audiences to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a glimpse into the storyline but keeping viewers curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Gang

In the teaser shows Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he grew up — getting a latest toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the toys appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer avoids is what the sheriff is back with his companions in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a carnival and assisting prize toys locate loving owners.

Surely, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?

Connections from the Previous Film

Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before departing for his fresh path was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the insignia attached to her shirt.

Hopefully she is still the key figure among the toys.

Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
