Roughly 50 automobiles have been covered with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Vehicles, exterior walls and postboxes were defaced, sometimes with swastikas, they announced in a release.
Officers state they were notified during the night on Wednesday, when a resident observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish liquid.
The substance had been drawn in the shape of a swastika, they reported.
Law enforcement then discovered multiple other marked automobiles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation banning the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Officials state preliminary tests suggest the liquid was most likely human blood.
"At present there remains no lead as to its source; authorities are not yet aware of any harm in connection with the event," they commented.
Municipal representatives stated they were trying "to solve the mystery" and have requested to the public for tips.
A high-ranking representative commented the attack left him speechless and required to be solved promptly.
"This incident affects the center of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the right-wing attack in 2020," he posted on a platform, mentioning the death of nine victims by a gunman targeting people of migrant background in 2020.
