An extensive extended cruise around the Australian Coast was terminated in the wake of the tragic passing of an elderly woman who was left behind by the vessel on a distant coastal location.

The passenger had been hiking on the remote island with other travelers from the vessel, but broke off from the excursion for a pause. The ship sailed away leaving her and returned after some time after the ship staff discovered the lady was unaccounted for.

A major search operation found her body the next day.

Investigative bodies are investigating the tragedy, in coordination with law enforcement and the medical examiner.

Chief Executive of the voyage organizer stated that travelers and crew on the ship were notified that the rest of the cruise had been terminated due to the "tragic passing and previous technical problems".

Via official communication, he mentioned that passengers would be issued a total repayment, and said the organization was working "to arrange the return journeys of the travelers via private aircraft".

Regulatory bodies also issued an updated statement, and said they had "issued a order to the Master" prohibiting any new passengers from entering the liner.

The spokesperson said that they would inspect the liner in Cairns upon its return.

Timeline of Events

The ship initially left the coastal city on 24 October, and was only 48 hours into the expedition at the moment of the 80-year-old's passing. Lizard Island was the first stop on the journey.

Travelers on the vessel - who usually pay tens of thousands of currency to participate in the voyage - were ferried there for a day trip with the option of trekking or snorkelling.

Family Response

The daughter of the elderly passenger said that her loved ones was "shocked and grieved that the ship left the island after an scheduled excursion without my mother".

Via her announcement, she described her mum as an "vigorous elderly person" who was a member of a walking club.

"According to scant information we have been provided, it appears that there was a lapse of care and ordinary reasoning," she stated.

She further stated that she wished the inquiry would be able to pinpoint what "the operator should have performed that might have protected Mum's existence".

"According to reports from the investigators that it was a exceptionally warm day, and she fell ill on the uphill trek," she explained.

"Officials suggested her to head down, unescorted. Then the ship left, seemingly without doing a roll call.

Organization Response

Via official communication, the CEO affirmed that the operator was "collaborating extensively with authorities to assist their inquiry".

He said that the organization was "deeply sorry that this has transpired" and had offered its total backing to the relatives.

The ship serves up to one hundred twenty travelers with 46 crew, according to official details. It was purpose-built to access distant regions of the Australian coastline and is fitted with "auxiliary vessels" - minor craft used to take travelers on day excursions.
